Textures of Cholesteric Liquid Crystal

1.The three-layer stacked Ch LCD consists of three Ch-LC layers with different pitch lengths, sandwiched between two transparent electrodes.

2.The pitch length of the liquid crystal molecules in each layer determines the wavelength of light reflected by that layer.

3.Each layer reflecting a different color of light ,usually is Red, Green and Blue. By controlling the voltage applied to each layer.

 

1.ChLCDs are bistable When a voltage is applied to the Ch LC, the molecules are switched between the two stable states

        Planar :  Reflective state

        Focal conic : the slightly scattering transmissive state.

2.Being bistable, ChLCDs require power only when being refreshed from one  to another.
